Henry Darger

Henry Darger was a recluse. His creative life's work was not discovered until after he died. The Chicago apartment where he lived was packed full, piled up endless with his epic story of the Vivian Girls and their quest to conquer evil in a make-believe land. Darger collected and horded many different objects, among them balls of string, shoes, and comic books. Many of his character illustrations were traced from the comic books. Perfection is his use of color. So much of meaning in art lies in the story of its creator.

Rodarte. I love stories of self-taught designers. Always. There is more to the magic. 

Thakoon. Anything 70's inspired...

Alexander McQueen. This collection was gorgeous. When I read about how emotional everybody was at the show I could just imagine what that must have been like... and then to see how beautifully Sarah Burton translated McQueen's vision could only have heightened the sense of loss, and also, appreciation.

Marni. Every time I fall in love. I like to imagine that I see the world in a similar way as Consuelo Castiglioni.

Proenza Schouler. I accidentally watched the video for this show, thinking all the while that it was Philip Lim. I must have watched it at least 10 times before I could peel myself away. The details are astounding. Transparent fabrics, the textures and colors, hook-and-eye closures: all favorite things. Watch the video!

I forget about Joanna Newsom & then. I remember. I listened to Bridges and Balloons tonight for the first time in years. I love that song! That storytelling, picture-book quality reminds me of The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Maybe that's because I just saw that movie or maybe it's because Newsom could be a Wes Anderson character. That quirky, talented and stunning. Her spirit really shines through.
